Ain’t No Time To Sit Down: Todd Steed, Ambassador...
Todd Steed is a legend. Not in his own mind, but as pure, unadulterated fact. He started out, like a lot of other rockers, playing in a rock band during his formative years of attending high school. Moving then on to the perennial favorites, Smokin’ Dave and the Premo Dopes [which included Tennessee Shines housebound leader, Dave Nichols], Steed got to tour wide and far. From there he went on...
Ain’t No Time To Sit Down: The Black Lillies ready...
On the cusp. The precipice, if you will. That’s where The Black Lillies are currently perched. They possess insane musical talent, and Mr. Contreras has an innate ability to pen music and lyrics. Well, they won’t be on that perch much longer. With 150 shows under their belt for 2010, and even more planned for 2011 [including, possibly, a stretch in Europe], The Black Lillies are poised to have...

Ain’t No Time To Sit Down: Scott Miller sings...
The image of Scott Miller in a Santa hat makes me chuckle. I’m pretty sure it’d never got that far. At least, I hope you couldn’t feed the man enough High-Life‘s where that’d seem like a good option. All that said, Mr. Miller [of The V-roys, Blue Collar TV and his accom… accomp… the fellas that play along side, The Commonwealth] churned out one heck of a Christmas album. We chatted...

Ain’t No Time to Sit Down: Review of Amy Ray and...
Having no real predicated love for the Indigo Girls, I wasn’t really sure what to expect of Amy Ray. What I got, in turn, was an amazing performance from a seasoned musician who has culled together a top notch band.
Ray brought a joy to the straight up rock ‘n roll show. Her entire band played in such a cohesive manner that it was absolutely striking at times. The rhythm section,...
Ain’t No Time to Sit Down: Review of Bijou Theatre...
“Heavy metal at the Bijou?” you ask. Surely not.
Yes, I was treated to a night of metal at the historic Bijou Theatre… and don’t call me Shirley.
I’ll readily admit, upon first hearing that Devin Townsend and Between The Buried And Me were performing at the Bijou, I thought it a misprint. AC had to mean The Valarium. But, like many times before, I was wrong.
Starting off the night,...
Ain’t No Time To Sit Down: Review of Jag Star’s...
In writing this review my gut is wanting to swing towards an unhealthy diatribe about the sad state of pop music. Not as a dismissal of what Jag Star does and represents, but the fact that they haven’t broke to a number one download in the iTunes Store. Yet no talent fools like Katy Perry and Kesha [notice no dollar sign] strike it rich.
But instead of focusing on the...
Ain’t No Time To Sit Down: Review of Tennessee...
WDVX’s monthly live broadcast, Tennessee Shines, is now established as the go-to venue for great, sometimes eclectic, music. The latest installment was a concert with no real singular highlights, just performance after performance that proved to be continually luminescent, with every musician at the top of their game.
Beginning the night [other than Jim Lauderdale...
Ain’t No Time To Sit Down: Brewers’ Jam Wrap Up
“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” — The Postman’s Creed, 1912 Apparently, beer drinkers have a code, too: “Neither rain nor gloom of cloud coverage nor cold nor mud nor coinciding UT football game stays these beer drinkers from the swift consumption of the over-abundance of beer.”

Ain’t No Time To Sit Down: Review of Generation of...
What do you think of when you hear the term “post-metal”? My best guess is that 99.9999999999% will retort a truly esoteric “huh? Whuzzat?” According to the bastion of truth that is Wikipedia, post-metal is “…broadly characterized by distorted guitar, heavy atmospherics, gradual evolution of song structure, and a minimal emphasis on vocals.” Yup, that about fits.

Ain’t No Time To Sit Down: Blue Mother Tupelo and Mindy Smith concert The Square Room - September 16, 2009
Blue Mother Tupelo is band that’s been on the edge for a while now. Around here, they’re well known and well respected - as they deserve to be. But nationally they seem to be on the precipice, one hit song from truly breaking big. Which… let’s just say...

Vertigo produces a sound that is difficult to define. That’s not a bad thing; it’s actually a plus. Over the years the band has grown in their sonic range. With The Coming and the...

website v3.0 coming... soon?
I’m truly struggling with the redesign of my site. I have an idea worked out, a comp, in Photoshop, but do not like it. I’m thinking about switching gears completely, and going with a bit more complex site. Now if I can only locate the time | desire | want to complete the site.
Here’s what I have so far, the one I’m thinking of scraping completely.

Finished up a couple of specs for a ‘youthful’ brochure concept for a client. Why they tapped my geriatric self for said a youthful look, I do not know.
